The Buzzard Brain Wrap Wallet is handmade by Will DePass in New Orleans, LA. Will offers several wallet designs as well as notebook covers, belts, watch straps and keychains. His products are made of excellent quality, full-grain leathers such as Horween Chromexcel and Hermann Oak Vegetable Tanned Leather.
The wrap wallet I picked up is made of two pieces of thick, natural vegetable tanned leather from the Hermann Oak Factory in St Louis, MO. This wallet arrived very stiff and pale (all normal for natural full grain veg tan). The configuration of this minimal wallet is very simple. It is essentially two pieces of leather folded once, interlocked with each other and sewn together. It forms 3 compartments. One card slot in the middle for occasionally used cards and one card slot on the side for 2-3 of your most frequently used cards. The other side has a “flap” that fits cash folded in half.
What I like:
I absolutely love the design of this wallet. If you’ve read some of my other blog posts you’l know that I tend to prefer minimal wallets that holds cash folded in half, and I also prefer cards that slide in vertically. This wallet is a unique design and fits what I carry perfectly.
The middle slot is deep enough where the cards do not stick out and the cash flap covers nearly all of the cash. If you are someone like me that does not like your cards and cash being somewhat visible when you pull you wallet out, this one does a nice job keeping everything mostly under wraps.
The leather used is a perfect thickness Hermann Oak Natural Veg Tan leather. I love this leather and it feels like it would last nearly forever. Even after a week of daily use, you’ll notice the darkening of the leather. This wallet is well on it’s way to getting some gorgeous patina.
The stitching and burnishing are perfect. I rarely see such a nice burnish as the one on the bottom of this wallet.
What I don’t like:
I have NO cons for this wallet. It’s slim and compact to carry and is one of my top 10 favorite wallets.
The Buzzard Brain logo looks cool and is understated, which is how all logos should be. The flap holds cards vertically.

Although the stitching on the back looks a lot like the front, the back of the wallet is actually a cash flap (the top edge that is angling down and right side have stitching but is not stitched to anything.)
A beautifully burnished bottom.
The top of the wallet holds cards vertically. You can fit a small stack in here. The inside leather is slightly rough so it holds the cards and prevents them from sliding out too easily.
This wallet has a very slim profile, even when filled with 5 cards and 5 bills.
As I mentioned earlier, the back side of the wallet has a cash flap. I have about 5 bills in the cash flap in the picture above.
This wallet hits the sweet spot trifecta – great design, great craftsmanship, great materials. If you are in the market for a wallet that has a superb design and will last a good long time, consider this wallet. I haven’t seen this on Will’s Etsy shop lately but I’m sure if you ping him, he’d be able to make one to order for you. I bought mine for $48 in Nov 2015.
